Beware of Steelers Ticket Fraud

From this morning's Allentown Morning Call:

"Julie C. Miller, who lived in Lehigh and Northampton counties, was charged March 30 with three counts of mail fraud for allegedly accepting payments for eBay auctions of Pittsburgh Steelers tickets, jewelry and rare coins, but never sending the merchandise."
Ms. Miller used several different user ids to sell more than $51,000 in merchandise that was never delivered.

E-bay is an extremely popular venue to purchase Steelers tickets. With 23 NFL teams having waiting lists for season tickets, individual game tickets for the Steelers and other NFL teams are hard to come by anywhere except secondary markets like e-bay, StubHub and traditional ticket brokers.

Fans purchasing tickets to Steelers home and away game tickets on e-bay should remember that e-bay is primarily a community enforced marketplace. While the vast majority of transactions are honest, ticket buyers should consider the following tips to protect themselves from purchasing fraudulent tickets:
  1. Fans should take care to ensure that sellers have substantially positive e-bay feedback. Positive feedback of 98% or better is considered benchmark.
  2. Tickets purchased from sellers with lower feedback ratings, both in terns of the number and percentage of positives may be purchased for a lower prices because of the perceived greater risk.
  3. For additional peace of mind, buyers may want to check to ensure that some of that feedback was for previous ticket sales.
  4. Steelers fans in Pennsylvania may be at a disadvantage selling tickets on e-bay. The e-bay system is designed to enforce Pennsylvania State Law which limits the amount above face value that can be charged by Pennsylvania based sellers on the secondary market to 25% above the actual ticket cost.
Fans can also reduce their risk by purchasing from another fan based marketplace, StubHub, which guarantees the authenticity of tickets purchased from their site.

The Steelers "Infiltrate Every Stadium In The NFL"

The Jacksonville Jaguars became the second team in a week to thump their chest about their ticket selling prowess when they announced yesterday that they are 1,500 season ticket sales away from beginning the NFL's 24th season ticket waiting list. Of course, this number excludes the 1,569 club seats that the team has left to sell for the 2006 season.

In addition the Jaguars announced that they have sold all 5,400 tickets that they have earmarked for 2006 games against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants. This also means that there will be no single game tickets available for those games this year.

Just as notable is the Jaguars continued freakish preoccupation with Steelers fans which has arisen several times on their website and on their local news:
"What all of this means is that Alltel Stadium shouldn't be nearly as yellow in color for the team's first home Monday night game since December 3, 2001. When the Jaguars played the Steelers on Monday night in the 2004 season, thousands of Steelers fans waving yellow dominated Alltel stadium...

"We don't think there will be nearly as the last time and if ther is the majority of (those tickets) will have been sold by (Jaguars) season ticket holders. We know ther will be some (Steelers fans) her because they've found a way to infiltrate every stadium in the NFL"
A quick look at StubHub reveals that Steelers fans will have plenty of opportunity to buy Steelers Jaguars tickets.

Cardinals Are A Sellout

The Arizona Republic is reporting that season tickets for Arizona Cardinals 2006 home games are now sold out. The Cardinals have sold approximately 4,500 season tickets since acquiring the rights to former USC Quarterback and 2004 Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart.

The Cardinals also announced that single game tickets will only be available to fans that place their names on the waiting list for Cardinals season tickets by paying a $200 per ticket deposit. That will also gove you the right to purchase an equal number tickets to an individual game.

This milestone will impact Steelers fans in 2006 and 2007. The Steelers and Cardinals will play in Arizona's preseason opener, August 12. This is also the inaugural game in the Cardinals' new stadium. According to the NFL's scheduling formula that established future opponents well in advance, the Steelers will visit Arizona during the 2007 regular seasonn.

Traditionally, Arizona has been a welcome stop for Steelers fans with tickets that were not only plentiful, but inexpensive. Look for ticket prices prices for the Steelers Cardinals preseason game to rise with this new found scarcity.

Arizona Cardinals Tickets Caliente, Like The Desert

The Arizona Cardinals, driven by the offseason acquisition of Edgerin James, the draft of 2004 Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart, and a brand new stadium in the West Phoenix suburb of Glendale, have announced that fewer than 3,000 season tickets remain for the 2006 season.

This is an amazing accomplishment for a franchise that has not sold out a home game in six seasons. In 2005, the Cardinals were the only team in the NFL to draw fewer than 400,000 fans, making Sun Devil Stadium the league's emptiest. In early April, we covered an announcement that the Arizona Cardinals would not offer partial season ticket plans to their fans this year - and we're a little skeptical. Let's just say I might have to eat a little crow..er Cardinal.

The Arizona Cardinals will open their new retractable roof, retractable field stadium on August 12 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. If that's true, the resale market for Arizona Cardinals tickets could spike. Right now tickets for the Steelers game against Arizona can be had on StubHub for as little as $33.
